Abstract
This research examines the connection between visual communication and cultural anthropology via international poster design analysis, considering the influence of globalized communication on cultural expression and identity formation. Since cultural anthropology examines human perception and behavior within culture given increased global communication, visual arts like poster design are direct indicators of cultural trends, movements, and developments. Global design competitions and festivals have created unprecedented arenas for the circulation of visual patterns, wherein designers assume and render global aesthetic fashion orientations while interpreting local cultural facts. Utilizing a descriptive-analytical research procedure supported by rigorous library work, this article utilizes tried-and-tested cultural anthropological approaches to examine visual culture transformation. The theoretical model is informed by Clifford Geertz's pattern theory of cultural anthropology, Arjun Appadurai's cultural model of globalization, and David Reisman's typology of human action into traditional, autonomous, sequential, and eclectic patterns. Dozens of sample posters from top international poster festivals were sampled and contrasted with cultural anthropological analysis on the basis of their visual patterns, cultural references, and cross-cultural influence. According to the analysis, significant media influence on artistic and public perception construction on the basis of cultural pattern exchange is apparent. This research contributes to our understanding of how visual culture works in the globalized world and provides design, cultural theory, and policy communities concerned with sustaining cultural authenticity but involved in global visual communication trends with useful insights.
